5 Instructional Shifts

For my iPad 2 graduate class, we were asked to decide which instructional shift we felt we needed the most improvement on.  The instructional shift that I feel I need the most improvement on is helping students to uncover knowledge. The difficulty that I find with that aspect of shifting the instruction is that third graders are still acquiring basic reading, math and content knowledge so it's difficult for them to construct their own learning when they don't have basic background knowledge about the subjects.  If others who teach primary students have any advice for me, I would love to hear it.
